Storage capacity depends on daily water demand, pumping hours, and demand timing. Systems serving evening or nighttime water needs require larger tanks than those serving only daytime irrigation. Peak demand periods may also influence tank sizing requirements.

Tank Placement and Elevation

Elevated tanks provide gravity pressure for distribution, reducing or eliminating need for pressure pumps. Tank elevation determines available pressure—each meter of elevation provides approximately 0.1 bar pressure. Strategic placement on hills or towers optimizes gravity distribution potential.

Ground-level tanks with separate pressure pumps offer alternatives where elevation is impractical. These configurations allow larger, less expensive tanks while maintaining pressurized distribution. The choice between elevated and ground-level tanks depends on terrain, cost factors, and system requirements.

Material Selection and Durability

Tank materials include polyethylene, fiberglass, concrete, and steel, each with advantages for specific applications. UV resistance is essential for outdoor installations. Food-grade materials are required for potable water storage. Corrosion resistance extends service life in harsh environments.
