Solar Pump Troubleshooting: Common Problems and DIY Fixes

No Water Flow
When a solar pump produces no water, check power supply first. Verify panel connections and controller indicators. Measure panel voltage at controller input. Low voltage indicates insufficient solar input or wiring problems. Check for blown fuses or tripped breakers.
If power is present but no flow, check for dry-run activation. Verify water level is above pump intake. Inspect intake screens for clogging. Check valves should be open. Pipeline breaks or disconnections can also cause no-flow conditions.
Reduced Flow or Pressure
Gradual flow reduction often indicates pump wear, impeller damage, or pipeline blockage. Sand abrasion wears impellers in sandy water sources. Check valves may stick partially closed. Pipeline scale reduces diameter over time.
Panel degradation reduces power output. Clean panels and check for shading. Controller faults may reduce pump speed. Motor brush wear in brushed motors reduces efficiency. Bearing wear increases mechanical losses.

Error codes on controller displays indicate specific faults. Overvoltage suggests excessive panel voltage. Undervoltage indicates insufficient power. Overcurrent points to pump mechanical problems. Overtemperature requires cooling verification.
