When a solar powered water pump does not perform as expected, installers should troubleshoot the system step by step. The issue may come from PV input, controller settings, cable voltage drop, dry-run protection, water source conditions, or the pump itself.
Start with sunlight and PV wiring. Check whether the panel string voltage is inside the controller range and whether connectors are tight. Poor sunlight or incorrect string design can make a good pump appear weak.
Next check controller fault codes and protection status. Dry-run, overload, low voltage, or overvoltage protection can stop the pump to prevent damage. Reading the controller status saves time in the field.
Finally review hydraulic conditions: total head, pipe blockage, water level, and cable distance. A pump selected for the wrong head or installed with excessive voltage drop may never reach expected flow.
