Solar Submersible Pump Sizing Checklist for Deep Well Projects

Sizing a solar submersible pump for a deep well project starts with water data, not with motor power. Importers should ask for static water level, dynamic water level, well depth, vertical lift to the storage tank, pipe distance, and expected daily water volume before requesting a quotation.
The pump curve must match both head and flow. A model that performs well in a shallow farm pond may deliver too little water in a deep borehole. Conversely, an oversized pump increases system cost and may require unnecessary PV capacity and larger cable size.
PV array and MPPT controller matching should be reviewed at the same time. The controller input voltage range, pump motor type, protection functions, and cable distance all affect system reliability. A complete solar pump kit should be engineered as one system.
Common mistakes include ignoring voltage drop, quoting only by pump diameter, missing water-level protection, and failing to ask whether the system fills a tank or irrigates directly. These details change model selection and after-sales expectations.
